hollow loft to extruded truncated cylinder

my loft keeps failing. I am unable to select the inside end surface of the extruded hollow cylinder as a loft surface. I suspect it has something to do with the project command but I do not understand the project command. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Could you clarify the beginning and end of your requested loft with an annotated screen capture?

I am trying to LOFT the gap (where the arrow is on the screenshot) between to 2 structures on either side of the arrow

You cannot create hollow lofts. You'll either have to create two separate lofts or perhaps more appropriate in this case create one solid loft and shell it.

I understand a hollow loft requires a solid loft followed by a cut loft. the problem I am having is selecting the inside of the long cylinder (I can select the rim) as a surface to loft. thanks for your time.

most of what your trying to loft would more appropriately be performed with a straight extrude. splitting the faces at the ends and extruding that part first will make the subsequent loft easier to perform, and it will look better surface wise. (and will no longer be a hollow loft, so just one loft operation)

helped, but when I tried the same Loft on the other end of the center extruded cylinder, I was unable to select the center of the extruded cylinder as a surface to do the solid loft, before doing the cut loft.

Will you suggest a video to help me understand? I am new to cad design for 3d printing and am very eager to learn. Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Loft is almost always the wrong tool to use. (Or almost always used incorrectly.)

What are you trying to design.

Edit: I just went through your Timeline and noticed a lot of issues.

Would you be willing to start over from scratch?

cylinder-ish shaped portable bluetooth speakers. side firing speakers with passive radiators at ends cylinder. flat surface needed on sides to mount speakers.

Is this design intended only for personal use and how will it be manufactured? (Only by 3D printing?)

Or is it intended to be commercialized and if so, how will it be manufactured (injection molded, other)?

3d printed for personal use. I want to design and print speaker enclosures for myself, friends & family.

Sketches will be fully defined (no blue geometry, no white dots).

Start a new file.

Create a new Component within the file.

Make this Component active and start a new sketch.

You should stop and ask how to get rid of it.

After sketching and dimensioning circle at the Origin, then sketch a Center Rectangle at the origin out to the circle.

Dimension 140.5 as shown (we will use ONLY dimensions that can be measured with calipers).

Select the two vertical lines on either side and hit X on the keyboard (or right click) to change to Construction.

Add the vertical line to the left as shown.

Dimension the distance to the Origin.

What color is the geometry?

Has nothing to do with "whole" mm.

Has to do with dimensioned or not dimensioned (relative to the Origin - our primary Datum).

BORN Technique

Base Orphan Reference Node Technique.

If I go out to the shop floor to set up a mill or lathe, the first thing I do is establish 0,0,0 Datum.
