Hi CMCORE,

Thanks for sharing the feedback with us.

Previously, only one configuration was supported in drawing. In Nov release, we support placing multi configurations in one drawing file. When switch the configuration, there are two options. "Drawing" is to switch the certain configuration in whole drawing, no matter how many reference it has been used. It is a kind of global. “View Set” is to switch the selected configuration, showing as attached video.

Regarding to the issue of unsuppress component, I do not reproduce it in my side. Suppression status is maintained when switch the configuration. Can you pls share the dataset with us? then we can do further investigation. Thanks

Switching Configurations in Drawing Space Unsupresses All Components In Viewbases Now

Prior to the November update, the ability to switch configurations in the drawing space was amazing. I could take one model of our product, fully document it, save it, save it as a separate copy, change configuration across the entire drawing, and retain the majority of the view states, dimensions, text, etc., thereby keeping my drawing layouts very consistent across varying models.

Now that the feature has been updated and given additional functionality (which is also awesome), I have to manually change the configuration for each base view one at a time (before, it worked globally). Also, when I do change the configuration, all of the suppressed components in each base view become un-supressed, which nullifies the practicality of the feature almost entirely.

Perhaps at some point, we can make it to where we can choose to change the configuration on an individual basis or a global basis in the drawing. And of course, maintain the suppression states of the unaffected components in each base view when the configuration changes.

Thanks for reading!

My apologies! I had not noticed the Scope aspect of the feature. Had I properly read through the November release documentation, I would have known about this and not had any issues.

Interestingly, as I was working through what you showed in your video, I had a few times initially where it did not apply the configuration switch to all views in the drawing, and it also un-suppressed all the components in each view as they were updating. After working with it for a bit, intending to video the results, it seemed to start functioning as it should. I'm not sure what was being done differently on my end, but I'm glad that it is working.

If it gives inconsistent results in the future for some reason, I'll provide the relevant files after removing sensitive data.

But for now, thanks for your help!

This doesn't fix my issue: when I open a drawing with a single unsuppressed component and switch configuration of same component (view selection option), many if not all unsuppressed components show in the view and many if not all simular dimensions are lost. If I use the ("drawing selection option") in the switch configuration menu item, I will get most of my drawing views with opposite component suppression and again most dimensions lost. I am documenting my design with 20 current configurations, costing me a couple of hours of lost time per configuration.

I responded thru your original request. The video was long which might be a problem. I’ll resend send link to files and omit the video. I suggest you take the 4.000 HHN 3.500 HR drawings and switch configuration to the 3.000 HHN 2.75 HR. You suggest you use the drawing option first since a couple of the views will be correct in part suppression and dimensions, but you’ll quickly see that most drawings will have switched the suppression on most components and will be missing dimensions as well.

If this is confusing please feel free to contact myself and we can set up a Skype call.

Thanks,
Alan

https://a360.co/4hWEJ5B

@alan_wolf, I actually continued to have the original issue of the suppressions being ruined when switching configurations in the drawing space. After working with @liang_chen via PM a bit and doing some more testing recently, I ended up remaking my drawing template and the problem seems to be fixed after doing that.

I'm not exactly sure what about my drawing template was causing issues (losing a lot of dimension references, part attributes becoming "####", suppressions being lost, etc.), but perhaps that's what is going on with you as well. It's possible that some of the recent updates have resolved the issue and that's why making a new drawing template is working, but maybe it's something different that is hard to pin down that might just require a new template being made.

Hope that helps you out, but I'll post back onto here if I start having issues again as I build out more drawings and switch configurations around.

Also, for anyone wondering why some dimensions are still being lost when configurations change in the drawing space, I'm finding that any dimension that is referencing sketch geometry brought in from the component design space will be lost upon a change in configuration across either the view set or the drawing. It does not seem like a glitch by any means, but rather a fact of how the feature operates.

Hopefully that unfortunate reality can be revised in the future to where dimensions attached to sketches can be retained.

Checking the details of the drawing file, it is unexpected behavior that the suppression status is not maintained after switch configuration. I have forwarded this issue to development team, and the internal ID is FUS-190611.
