the picture you posted is definitely a "standard" Fusion design, with two inserted (external) components. If you save this, it will be just a normal Fusion design. Not quite sure I see what the problem is. Is the question just about export format? If you export this design, it will be exported as an "F3Z" file, which will contain all 3 designs - the top one ("combined2"), and the two referenced designs ("Reflector Inner", and "Reflector Outer"). Try saving this, exporting the F3Z, and attaching it here.

I am trying to do one of the most rudimentary things that one does on a design tool--include another design. I cannot seem to do this.

My design is created from copying two other designs using Data Panel:"Insert into Present Design". It appears that this does not generate a "normal" design and the export does not generate an F3D.

Going back one further step, the two originating designs were generated from local SAT files, but the resulting files were saved into the fusion cloud. I am attaching a PDF (since there is no F3d to export) showing what displays.

Looking at the browser I see that the sketches are labeled "Local" .

How do I save the resulting file as an ordinary F3D?

THanks

Fritz

it's not that they "could not" open it, more that "opening an F3Z is a bit more work". Some forum folks don't like to hassle with F3Zs, because to open it, you need to upload it. I do it all the time. If you want it all condensed into a single design with no external references, you can do "Break Link" on the external component, but then you lose any advantages that having a separate component gives you. But, a design with external references is just as much a valid Fusion design as one with all local components.

OK--I now see the "links" that Geunther mentioned. I broke them and see that the "edit pencil" goes away.

I am not sure what is lost here however. The original SAT files that are linked to are not, I believe, editable. So it is not clear what is lost.

Thanks all

Fritz

Hi,

If there are linked components in the design, an f3z file is created.
This contains both the "overall design" as f3d and each inserted part (separately).

günther
