Seems to be a reoccurring theme but new user here coming from Solidworks and struggling with joints.

What I seem to be struggling with is aligning a component to two different objects. In this case I'm trying to align a gear with a bearing axially and have it in line with another gear that is offset from the bearing surface in Z. All I can figure out so far is to do a cylinder joint between the gear and the bearing and then offset it's position in Z in the joint. This is not a great work flow compared to being able to mate two planes in then mate the cylinders as you would in Solidworks. I've tried aligning the two planes first but when I do the joint it just moves the part in Z to some random (I'm sure it's not random, it's just not obvious where it comes from) point

I have attached your model, modified, with a different name. If you are going to be successful with Fusion 360, you have to learn and use the application methods, not try and use SolidWorks commands and methods. You may have a great deal of knowledge in the use of SolidWorks and you can use those "concepts" in Fusion 360 but learn the proper use of this application and you will enjoy it a lot more.

In the Screencast I explain how to add the needed joint and correct your other joint since a cylindrical joint is not applicable here. I do not know the exact ratio of your gear set, you can correct that in the model.

John,

First off thanks for taking the time to do this, you've gone well above and beyond. I'm well aware that this isn't Solidworks and I'm doing my best to learn. There are plenty of areas that I already find it quicker and easier. Thanks for the gear ratio tips. That's definitely something I hadn't seen. Unfortunately the first part doesn't exactly get me to where I was hoping to go. My goal is to have the gear with the plane aligned with the motor in such away that measuring isn't needed and position of the gear will update accordingly if the motor position is changed, or remain stationary if the wall is moved. Thanks for the tip of selecting edges to clarify where the offset measurements a measured from, I'm in the habit of selecting the faces.

Thanks,

C

I am sorry I did not relate the worm gear "directly" to the motor but the process is the same. You must establish two points where you apply the Revolve joint. In my first video I did an offset from the plate hole to the gear, in this video, I create two points, one on the gear and one on the motor component that I can add the Revolve joint. So now you have the condition you desire, move the motor any where you desire and the worm gear will follow.

I to wish Joints respected work planes and axis but they do not so what you do is just place points on them to use as Joint origins. Model is attached and as I mentioned in the video, I did not go through the process of adding joints to the Worm and Worm Gear, you can get that from my first video.
