Why do you need the shell command? Do you want the hole to go all the way through the flat plate like this?

If so, simply extrude the center of the circle sketch through the flat plate.

That is what I want. You asked about the "shell" command? it is just another command that I was learning. He says there are a lot of ways of doing it and one was the way I did it, Circle and one offset circle, then extrude it through the back plate but mine keeps cutting through the ribs, maybe I need to lower the 45 degree surface so it will be lower when cutting through the back plate. I was working off the drawing he supplied. I was trying to learn how the shell command worked. He had two bodies, the tube and the back plate and I was not able to add the back end of the tube when using the shell command no matter what I did, to complete the hollow tube before joining it back with the back plate. Just trying different things. If video did not play go to you tube and type in flag pole fusion 360 and around the 35 minute mark you can see it. Thanks for your reply

I started out with the two circles and all that worked fine but it cuts through the ribs on the back plate. In his video he had one tube then used the shell command to make the cut through the tube at 3.5mm inside, Then somehow was able to pick the back side of the tube to complete the cut through. There were two bodies, the tube and the back plate, he turned off the backplate and worked on the tube itself. Everything went fine for me until picking the back side of the tube to finish off the cut through. Nothing I do will allow me to pick the back side of the tube. I was trying to learn the shell command and yes I know there are other ways of doing this. If video did not play go to you tube and type in flag pole fusion 3.60 and at around the 35 minute mark it is easy to see. Thanks.

Thanks for your trouble. Power outage just screwed up everything. So much for battery back ups. I will try again later when my nerves settle down. I do not use this program that much and this has been way to hard for me. Way to many hours wasted on one thing. Thanks aggain

I think the way you currently have it modeled is the correct way. If you cut through the flat plate, the actual flag pole will be rubbing on the surface the plate is mounted on. I doubt that would be very good for it😀

In most cases work in Dialogue Boxes from top to bottom,

Adding to a selection, hold down the Control / Command key to continue selecting

When starting the Shell command, select both faces of the rod, before you set the wall thickness,

and if you want to edit the previous shell feature (currently with just one face,)

highlight Selected > hold Control down, > select the second face to open.

Doesn’t work?

As you are inquiring with other options, there is a new option in Extrude (since that video came out) for thin wall Extrude, 1 circle sketch to get the tube result - nowadays.

If your plate is correct size?,

Move the rod sketch lower down a bit, or change the web sketch line angles,

and I agree with Ed, you would not penetrate the plate in real life.

Might help....

For the shell command select, the top faces then select the bottom faces then set the measurement if you select one face set the measurement, and try to select the other faces it fails.

But if you want the hole all the way through do as suggested Extrude cut.

Every thing you said Makes 100% since. Thank you for the explanation. That is all I was looking for. I know it is a little thing but just wanted the thing to work. THANK YOU. It hit me later today about moving the hole lower, I was just using the drawings and that is not always possible during manufacturing. Again Thanks.
