You moved the component (maybe just dragged by mistake) so its origin is no longer the same a the document origin. You've used a capture position to save the moved position. Some advice for when you get to making assemblies. Do not use Move and capture position, always use a joint. Actually if you're using Move on bodies or components then you're probably doing it wrong.

The construct in the attachment is simple enough--I generate a ring from a sketch with a circular rotation extrusion. Then I place a hole on the ring and finally duplicate it 5 more times about the ring. I use Create:Pattern for this.

In order to do this, I select the original hole as my fist Pattern Object--then I select the center of the ring as my axis. The latter is somewhat nebulous in the doc but an axis appears when I place my cursor on the ring and I use this.

The result can be seen- the holes are not centered but offset--Only thing I could imagine is the axis that is generated it "off". I played with construction for this but no better results.

Fritz

OK--I think i had selected a sketch:construction axis. When I tilted the diagram a bit I could see another set of axes which-I believe- coincide with the center of the circle. (no doc on this). Selecting this produces the result so apparently the two axis do not naturally align.

Thanks!

fs

Also it looks like when you created the pattern you didn't have the component active, you had the main top level active. When you create a pattern the active component's origin is made visible. If you'd had the Ring component active its origin would have been visible.

OK-There is a whole issue around move, capture, and the whole issue of relative positioning of parts that is not clear to me. Both the doc and a few books I have seem to like to "gloss" over this but I think it is one of the more important fundamentals of the project.

In general, the "capture" seems to be asked for when I do a lot of procedures. Also, I am thinking that they can be removed from the timeline without problems later. But certainly not clear.

Thanks for the additional pointers Mark!-

Fritz
