In my model of a SailGP F50 catamaran, I create Bodies in a Component which are symmetric about the centre line. I do one Body on the starboard side, then mirror it to the port side. This was so I didn't have to repeat every change twice - I would just delete the port body, and re-copy the starboard body.

I've been reviewing the copying of components, where I see they can be Linked.

Can a Body or Component be mirrored so that it stays linked, like in Sketches?

There are so many workflows out there it’s hard to be specific, and my comments are my own, others may have different views

I think you are mixing apples and oranges together.

Components are containers that hold content, and are not “bodies”.

Components can contain a body or more than one body, amongst other things.

Component being linked ((patterned / pasted) copies) are instances.

Component pasted as new or mirrored is independent, from now on, and will not be an instance of the original.

Bodies reside in Components.

So Design dependant you have to decide if you are going to mirror a body, or it’s Component, and the ramifications of either process, are probably beyond my expertise as a general statement. Specific individual circumstances I could address.

In my case I hate to do something twice. I do aircraft, with half wings and tails, I will make one of each individual part, where duplicates are a mirror (handed) I will mirror as a late stage of the project. I will then make any bridging parts that rely on both mirrored articles after the mirror. Whether they are components, or bodies depends on my intended output.

To start the ball rolling....

I'm getting a better understanding of Components vs Bodies. Was looking into what can be done with components when I watched a video showing instances of Components, and how these are linked. Which made me wonder about the mirroring.

Would no doubt be better to do all the mirroring towards the end of the process like you do, but I'm a bit like a kid with a new toy... and want to see it all taking shape. I'll probably grow out of it. 🙂
