Adding a pattern to a Planter.

Hello,

This is my first design, I am completely new to fusion 360. I designed a planter for a plant and wanted to add a design to it. A detent greek design coving the entire outside surface. I have YouTubed just about every pattern video I could find. I came close a few times.

And this is where I get stuck.

The forum users need your model to help you plus the design graphic. Please attach them to your post. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

I did a preview, using a Screencast, of the process I used to add a pattern and your pattern to the pot. This is my method, others may do it differently. I start out by explaining that your pattern in not suitable from this conical pot since it is straight. I used text to demo since it can be easily set on an arc. If you decide to use this method and you are not able to figure out the steps from the Screencast and model, let me know and I will make a long recording on any steps confusing you, please be specific. By the way, the pattern can be raised or cut into the pot at any logical depth. Model is attached.

Im flying to Wisconsin today and won’t be home until Wednesday to try this.
What I want to do is wrap my pattern all the way around the planter from top to bottom.
Do I have to make that pattern over and over at different diameters as it goes up the conical shape?

If you want to cover the side of the pot, Yes, you will have to make a different arc sketch of your pattern for each level. Personally, I think the pot would look a lot better with just one pattern line just under the rim or around the center. If you cover it I think it will look to "busy" and will not be as attractive as one line would look. You can determine the arc of the pattern using the sheet metal unfolded body. The arc gets tighter as you move closer to the bottom.

I followed your steps but am getting an error when I try to convert it to sheet metal. I more than likely did something wrong somewhere. Maybe the thickness?

It looks like you have done a nice job on your model, up to this point. You did the small Extrusion on the edge of the thicken cone because you cannot use the Convert to Sheet Metal command and select any part of the cone. However, I suspect you are not selecting the correct edge of the extrusion. You must select the side edge, thin extrusion, to satisfy the Convert to Sheet Meal command. You also will be using the same edge to unfold it to apply your pattern.

Good Morning,

I have been struggling at trying to make the arc that you have. The arc I am to follow with letters or my pattern.

I am just learning so please excuse the newbie question.

Hi,

After the "sheet metal body" is unfolded, create a sketch on its surface
Use the offset tool to create the distance to the body edge.
You then use this curve to guide the pattern.
