Unable to Chamfer or Extrude with Angle

Got a simple shame here for a guitar pickguard. One section I need cut at 90 degrees and the rest a chamfer at 45 degrees.

When I extrude the shape to 2.25mm (thickness of the plastic) it won't let me add a 45 degree angle.

When I manually chamfer at 2.25x2.25, some edges are fine, some don't work, with or without tangent chain clicked.

I'm new to Fusion and CNC stuff, just learning. I've done this on very simple shapes before but for some reason this with the slightly curved corners is being a real pain.

One of the errors is this... not sure what is needed but would appreciate the help.

Error: The fillet/chamfer could not be created at the requested size.
Try adjusting the size, deselecting some of the edges (try disabling Tangent Chain), or using multiple separate operations.

Left corner is what seems to be giving the issues

I tried a version with sharp corners, and got further than before, but then it hits this edge and that line in the middle of the edge, then poops out.

I design in Illustrator and import into Fusion360 because I find it easier for this stuff where I have to trace photos and constantly print tests out and check fitment.

Yep, corner radius is smaller than the chamfer.

Reduce chamfer size, or increase corner radius.

For reference, this is very close to what I'm making... modern versions are cheap on eBay but the wrong size which is why I am making my own. Plus I have 3 other guitars needing pickguards made because no longer available. I bought the small CNC machine because hoping to use it for making replacement guitar parts for restoration.

Ideally I figured I'd buy a v-carve bit with a 90' angle edge, then get a perfect 45' angle chamfer on all the sides I want, then use a normal straight bit for the edges without chamfer. But I assume I have to still render it with the chamfer and program the bit into the CAM side of things.

In the photo, you can see from the layered plastic, which edges have the chamfer, and that the 2 corners top/bottom or the right side are curved but only slightly. Corners on the left are all sharp.

I deleted your Feature on the edge. And Created a Fillet of 0.5 mm. And it looks like now I dont have that edge that was noticed in your design...

You don't need to chamfer the edges in the Design workspace, just create a 2D Chamfer in Manufacturing. Hold the Alt key (Windows) down when selecting the individual contours. Be sure to check which direction the red arrows are pointing and run Simulation to verify the toolpath.

@THRobinson75 , Check out the model I have attached... I was able to perform a chamfer of 2.25 mm with an angle of 45 Degree... But I did have to remove the 2 Fillets... I did not have the radius of the Fillet, so did not execute that command...

So, it was the rounded corners? Why does Fusion not allow a chamfer on those edges? If I did this manually on a router table, the router would handle the corners without any issues... it's just a small rounded egde.

Also, knowing it's called a fillet helped... was able to google and find out how to delete them. Hold CTRL then choose the fillet.

On that side with the long curve, there is a line in the middle essentially making that edge two parts... can that line be deleted and that side made into 1 piece?

EDIT - So I went into mine, deleted the rounded corners, tried the chamfer and same issue. I can make it at 2.24 but once I hit 2.25 I get the error again. Weird and annoying. Main issue is I still need those corners rounded to match what it's supposed to look like.

That's working not badly... added in the V-Groove bit using measurements from Amazon and it's ignoring the rounded corners issue and putting a 45 degree angle on the edges... however, all in a single pass and I can't find anything in the tabs to allow me to do it in 3 passes.

Plastic is only 2.25mm thick, but would like to cut it out in maybe 3 passes (0.75mm each) .

Use a larger tip offset to do the roughing passes.

Look at the Model I have attached. It has Chamfer of Exact 2.25 mm as you wanted. At an angle of 45 Degree..

And you can now add the fillet which I deleted... Because I don't know what radius you want to give... Or else I would have given it..

I'm still trying to figure out how... I removed the fillet and got a bit further than before, but like I said, when I tried to chamfer the long curved side, I was back to getting errors.

I'm not saying what you did didn't work, I'm just trying to figure out why for myself it's not. I must be missing a step somewhere, which I need to figure out because as mentioned, I have another 3 guitars to make plates for this summer alone. 🙂

There, started from scratch again... chamfered the one edge no problem, clicked to do the long one and the one section always turns red and gives an error.

One more thing... What will be the radius of the fillet after applying the chamfer..?

So the Pythagoras formulas clearly say, if you have a radius of 2.25 at the bottom, your sheet metal seal is also 2.25 and your 45 degree angle is no longer a radius at the top,

you can't have everything 45 degrees and below - not above --- a radius of 2.25 .

I'm not fully sure what you are saying. I do know that in real life, I could cut this out as a template and use a 45 degree bit on a router table and add a 45 degree angle to any/all edges on that shape. No tricky angles or fancy gadgets, just a guided bearing bit and a 45' cutter.

That's why this is frustrating. I expected to simply click all the edges and chamfer 2.25mm at 45 degrees and done... it's not an elaborate shape. It's extremely simple and flat. 😁
