Hey, everyone. New Autodesk user here. I am trying to make a fractal magic wand which entails sizing the fractal to 1.5mm and wrapping it around the cylindrical surface of the wand up to the part of the wand that has the washers on it. Can anyone teach me how to do this?

@jhackney1972

My first advice, just based of hearing your request is to use the emboss tool to wrap something, but I'll give you some better advice and share a screencast once the file opens for me

*First question from me, because you haven't named anything and sketches don't exist here...

Your trying to scale the meshbody 1 to 1.5 mm and wrap it round the wand skeleton structure to make that design, because if that's the case there's a simpler way

As a new user, the worst thing you can do to learn Fusion is to download stuff you don't understand and try to modify it. My recommendation would be to go through the self-paced learning tutorials and learn the basic concepts of CAD modeling with the software:

The objects you imported are miles away form the origin, which is not good at all.

As you are working with imported geometry, by default you are working with the timeline disabled.

The very first thing I'd do before enabling the timeline is to use the point-to-point move tool and move the objects to the origin.

That is correct. I am trying to scale the meshbody1 to 1.5mm and wrap it around Body1 (the wand) at all points just before the circles near the base of the wand.

Yes! That is exactly it. How did you do that? Are you able to wrap it around the entirety of the wand to just before reaching the circles on the wand? ( meaning that the fractal is on the entire right side of the picture below and stopping at the circles)

It was just a first try to see if I understood and perhaps I still don't!....Which area? and what is the purpose and how will you realise the design 3D print?

The blue area is where the fractal goes ( the entire area in the new picture). This is intended as a wizard wand ( also for cosplay!). I am thinking that I will CNC it as the details are pretty finite in this.

1. What you have, is a skeleton...

2. It needs to have an outer surface to do what @Warmingup1953 did.

Here are the steps to follow, as using an imported skeleton structure isn't the greatest way to learn or go on with this project.

1. At the back end of your skeleton, make a sketch, where you draw a centre point circle that alligns with the wand skeletal strucutre, 2. extrude, it to the end of the wand where it becomes too thick to go to the next section.

2. This leaves you with a solid body which can have the emboss tool used on it.

3. Select the emboss tool, select both the newly made cylinder and the design ensuring that the design is wrapping the cylinder, change emboss settings to engrave, and watch the magic!

4. The rest of the wand forward from there can just be done via more circular sketches extrusion and fillets, with a few chambers to get the rigt shape!

Sleepy Regards

Ricky

And I am utterly dissapointed in you, he's new, your meant to be harsher, what would Hon. Pirxess and Pirx say to that, I can't imagine their horrified faces...

But for @amszabo Unfortunately, I'm experiencing issues with F360 and my recorder (OBS) so I'll demonstrate via screenshots...

I'll have attatched it within the next 30 minutes as I am at that age age where I am "effectively tortured"

Pixie 👿 regards

Ricky

(Right hollow the wand at the end, I didn't realise engrave doesn't worked on hollow bodies...

This creates an engraving on the handle...

I think you should've accepted to make a proper "true fractral wand" as it isn't possible unless your refined accurate and Idk's where our refined accurate guy is so yeh... But your best bet, is where I made the sketch, make a close as possible sketch of what you want to engrave on the wand and then engrace it. (I hope you can do simple maths, so find the diameter of the wand handle, and make sure the sketch is exactly that height so it all matches up and looks good)

Sleepy regards

Ricky
