Hi Guys,

To start, this is a model I downloaded as an -asm.stl file.

I converted it to a mesh then started going around deleting as many of the un-needed faces.

My issue is with the lid.

What I intend to do is split/separate the lid from the main chest body to enable me to move the lid, so I can have model with the lid open or closed. I also plan on adding a piano hinge.

The problem I'm facing is when trying to split the lid from the chest using a plane located on the back face of the chest, I get a compute failed error.

I've also tried adding an extruded rectangle along the 'join' between the chest and the lid in an effort to join all 3 then do the split and remove the extruded rectangle, but this won't even join the 2 parts with a vertices error.

Can anyone offer a solution to enable me to split the lid from the main chest?

I'd be very grateful for your advice.

Darren.

What is your overall goal with this model?

I am questioning whether Fusion is the right software to work on this triangulated mesh model.

Hi TrippyLighting,

To scale it down to roughly 1:43 and 3d resin print.

I've deliberately left the drawers as individual items as I plan on printing some with the drawers open.

If you think it's triangulated now you should have seen it before, it was crazy.

what software are you thinking of?

I would use mesh editing software, for example, Autodesk Meshmixer or, depending on the task, Blender.

Triangulated meshes do not represent native CAD data and are the least common denominator to represent 3D geometry.

In many cases, it makes no sense to convert a triangulated mesh model into BRep and then re-export it as a triangulated mesh for 3D printing.
