Are you really talking about deleting the timeline are you talking about dissolving the features that collect in the browser ?

I really also don't see a lot of uses for those "features" either. Either you direct model, or you don't.

Is there a way to work with history "really" off?

What is the point if it is just going to build up history icons in my left side menu instead of at the bottom timeline. I have to keep manually dissolving all the history icons that I want to work without or everything gets buggy again.

If I let history build up while I am working, inevitably everything gets slow and crashes, so Id rather work without it. If I have ever needed to go back in history it is painfully slow and most of the time doesn't work anyway. I experiment and use lots of boolean operation, mirroring and what not while I am prototyping parts on the fly. F360 history is crap with that workflow so I'm fine with it off, but I want it be off, not just redirected.

Hi @gregH7VPN ,

Thank you for posting to the Fusion 360 forum.

Fusion 360 'do not capture history' option captures the feature but does not capture the feature history that means you can not make it editable. if you wish to remove all the listed feature from the left side browser, turn ON the capture history option and then turn it OFF again it will remove all the features listed, it will keep only sketches and bodies.

I am not sure this suggestion helps, but let's try if it works.

Cheers.!

Hi,

1. If there are problems with the timeline, in most cases they are caused by the user.
2. Disabling the history has the apparent advantage of reducing your exposure to errors, but at the cost of not being able to parameterize them.
3. Listing items in the browser does not mean that the history is "redirected".
4. I think you should look into the real differences between parametric and direct modeling.

günther

I work often in "history off" mode when developing ideas or solutions in early stages of a design- there are situations when I find that easier, and others (more often) when history, even in early stages of a design, can be more helpful. Once I have a clear direction I will always turn on history.

I do find the browser clutter that develops in direct modeling can be a bit irritating, but I strongly suspect that if you are experiencing performance or stability issues, the causes lie elsewhere. Direct modeling doesn't just put some history off to the side, it's really not parametric. Some things- unresolved sketches or mirroring, seem prone to causing trouble. Maybe posting a problematic file would help to identify any issues.

Working in parametric mode can be very helpful in enforcing a kind of design discipline- fully defining sketches, paying attention to order of operations, etc.- that can help to create stable designs. After all, you can see what you have done, and go back at any point. But it's easier to do when you know more or less where you are heading with a design. I really appreciate having both options in Fusion.

Yeahhh… Since I do actually model for a living in a VFX pipeline, I have a pretty good idea that it has more to do with a fast and loose work flow that ends up repeating points in “almost" the same space than it has to do with me needing to study the difference between parametric and direct. We are coopting some of F360s workflow but have different needs with unimaginably fast turn arounds and are dealing with poly counts that are an order of magnitude hight than fusion can touch.

All I really have need of, is fuzzy math approximation in a stl envelope that gives me a point cloud. Then I can have Houdini convert into a hight and low poly workflow in quads using a custom built a parametric pipeline for VFX which has very different needs than a parametric workflow in engineering. I am just tired of manually deleting the timeline and watching the spinning blue circle.
Exactly!
I am referring to both, if you turn off history you get stuck with features. Give me 10 levels of undo and stop with all the parametric overhead when I don’t want it.
