Hello,

I have designed a cylindrical part that has a sticker which wraps around the part. I am trying to specify in my drawings that the sticker is to be placed at a specified distance from one end of the cylinder. I can add the decal in the render workspace, but the issue is that I can't select the decal in the drawing workspace when I'm trying to dimension it.

I've tried adding it to the design workspace, but it doesn't let me select the rounded edge (cylindrical). Also, if I add it to the drawing space afterwards it is only displayed two dimension (doesn't wrap around the cylinder)

I've tried adding a small feature in the side of the cylinders so that I could grab the dimension from that. This is O.K., but it distorts the decal for some reason and disassociates if I delete the feature afterwards.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I

Hi,

Here is a screen shot of from my drawing.

Also wondering why the Decal isn't opaque all of the time. It appears translucent sometime, but not others. I haven't changed any properties.

I would like to propose a method of placing a decal in your model with the ability to position it accurately wherever you want it. My example is for a cylindrical model but it can be adapted to a flat one as well. I explain the process in a Screencast and I attached the model is used to demonstrate.

Thanks. I have an NDA for the original file, but I have made an example with a food label.

I have added a screen capture of an issue I am having on the back of the cylinder as well. It looks like the label over lapping on the back, but It isn't.

Hi, thanks for the tip. unfortunately my design is translucent and when I am in the drawing workspace the edges are very apparent because cylinder is translucent. I can't seem to find a way to hide those edges in the drawing workspace.

I have revised my method a bit to eliminate the edges you spoke of. You did not include your image to your post so I could not use it on my test decal. The issue, where the decal shows on the back of the tube, is eliminated with this method. This has been an ongoing issue with decals that wrap around a cylinder. If you want to position the decal anywhere along the tube, simple right click on the "Position Decal" joint and change the distance from the end.

I will agree that this method takes a little more time but it accomplishes two things, you can position the decal anywhere you desire along the tube and it eliminates the wrapping overlap issue. If you have any questions on my method, let me know and I will create a video of the process. Model is attached.

Thank you. I am a little confused as I don't see "Position Decal" Joint anywhere. Maybe I have joined my components incorrectly?

I've attached the image file I was using.

Another two issues I am having (see second picture "translucent Label") is that the decal sometimes appears translucent when there are objects behind it.

Also, you can see in the picture that the visible lines are an issue in the drawing workspace. I can't fine a way to hide this visible lines.
