How do I rotate the sketch grid?

I have searched for answer but have not found a solution. I am trying to rotate a sketch grid or sketch plane so the horizontal or vertical axis would align with some other angled geometry or feature instead of with origin HVD. I do not want to have to rotate the component or body because it may be part of a much larger assembly. It will also cause issues if I need to sketch in a different plane. Is there any way to align the sketch grid with a different HVD than the origin? In the linked screencast I want to draw a rectangle that is parallel to the hypotenuse of the triangle.

there is no way today to rotate the sketch coordinate system (and thereby the sketch grid). Normally, customers will dimension and orient their sketch geometry to projected model edges or other model geometry, and rely on Parallel/Perpendicular to orient lines.

You can create a "User Coordinate Component" and use it to establish a new coordinate axis. It will not be linked and you will have to keep it straight when designing but it works.

My apologies. Here is the screencast. I would like to have a sketch coordinate system/sketch grid aligned with the hypotenuse side of the triangle so that I can sketch rectangles parallel to that edge.

https://autode.sk/3w7JfpQ

You do not need a rotated sketch grid to do what you desire. Simply use a 3 Point Rectangle command and you can sketch a rectangle parallel the the hypotenuse easily.

Thanks, this is a helpful trick. I also used the measure function on the rotate dialog to set the correct angle.

Here is one work around that I came up with. It's clunky but may help others out as well. It is odd the the grid will orient to the construction plane if it is not perpendicular to the origin HVD but doesn't work if it is coplanar.

Instructions:

Create plane at angle>rotate to any angle that is not perpendicular to any origin xy, xz, or yz plane>create sketch on that plane and click finish sketch but do not create geometry yet>edit construction plane so that it is at correct angle>edit sketch

https://autode.sk/2UZ6EwR
