2 part molds

I am trying to make a 2 part mold. I uploaded an X..t file and created a box around the part . I then tried to use the combine tool to subtract the part. Only when I select the the box I cannot select the the part to remove. Is there a certian file type that I should be using to do this. Thanks

Can you attach your model real fast, it is getting late but I do a lot of molds and would like to help. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section of a forum post to attach it.

The main thing is it has to be a solid body. Is your imported file a surface by chance, this would explain the problem?

I attached the stock file by itself you are welcome to look at it and see what is the problem

As I mentioned, you cannot use a surface body with the Combine command. The Screencast shows how I repaired the surface body to create a solid. I am having a little difficulty with the Split tool when making the mold so I will send this along first. Model is attached.

I am having trouble with the Split Body tool that is used to separate the two halves of the mold. I cannot figure it out right now and it is very late. I will try and look at it tomorrow. I hope someone else can figure out why the body cannot be split. Model is attached.

@jeff_strater have you any idea why the Split Body command will work if the Combine is not done but fails after it. Also, if I try and combine the body with even half the folder, after it is split, it fails also. This model pattern has some weird effect on the process. Any help would be appreciated.

I once let my keen eye wander and noticed that there are some interferences in the surfaces that the fusion hates. - me too - these often arise when rounded off. I am also amazed that it was possible to staple the mirror parts. the shaft also has a problem. I'll have a look right there. See you. greetings mango

okay @darron.lanier, @jhackney1972 i did the work for the hollow.

unfortunately there is still the problem with combining the two halves of the rifle because the areas do not fit together perfectly. I'm tired - mango

this is the only file I have. I had a Guy on Fiverr .com do the drawing for me . I cannot do 3d drawings very well so I have to pay some one to do these for me .

I hope you didn't pay for this one - it is very poorly done.

If you can get the designer to join this discussion - I can create a video pointing out the obvious modeling issues.

he is in Pakistan so I do not know if he could join us or not. I did pay him $100 to do some modifications that I do not know how to do.

I got back to it today and first thing I did was to delete some problem surfaces in your supplied surface model and replaced them. I changed the units to millimeters from meters since it makes more sense for such small model. I then turned it into a solid using the Stitch command in the Surface tool panel. I have attached this model separately.

The Screencast shows the process of creating the two half mold. This model is attached also.
