Balloons for top-level components

I have a model containing several components that have subcomponents. Part of the documentation is an exploded view and I want to include balloons and a table. I want to treat one of the components (component 1, for example) as a single item, with a single balloon containing (1), but I get balloons for all the components, (1.1), (1.2), (1.3) etc, not just (1), and get entries in the table. I can delete the balloons for all except 1 subcomponent, leaving just (1.1), say, but cannot remove the others from the table.

How can I create a balloon and table entry for just that one single top-level component?

There is a workaround that will let you create the parts list that you are looking for. I've made a video explaining the process here:

The good news, is that we plan to improve the way users edit Parts Lists in the future, keep an eye on the public roadmap.

Hi Clint,

Well, it almost works, but not quite. I'm probably not doing something that I should.

I can get the parts list of just the components and I want, but I can't create balloons for the required subcomponents.

In the screenshot I've managed to create the balloon I want for item 1, the DTI, but I can't create balloons for the subcomponents of item 2 - they all come out as (2) instead of (2.1), (2.2) etc, as shown.

Any ideas?

Sorry to be a nuisance, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong. I generate the two tables OK, but when I insert balloons they are taken from the wrong table, as shown in the screenshot.

Try this, right-click on the 2nd reference and choose "Table"

The Balloons are always going to come from the reference of the view

Thanks for the screencast. I can replicatethis behaviour on my end. In the image below, the carburettor sub assembly is number 1.5 in the list, however, I can't place a balloon for 1.5, only it's subcomponents 1.5.1, 1.5.2 etc.

I'll have a chat with the team about this. It's possible that this behaviour is "as designed"

Hmm, I hope it's not "as designed". If it is, then in my opinion, it's a rather serious oversight.

Hi @lemelman

I've checked in with the team, this is "as designed" behaviour.

We do have a project on our roadmap (bottom right), looking at overrides, this would be where we will get the opportunity to expose more functionality to parts lists. At this point, it is still in the backlog (shown by the grey colour). Keep checking back, the roadmap is updated after each release, as soon as we start work on it, the status colour will change.
