Often enough you can change your workflow to pattern timeline features, but we’d need to have access to your model to determine if thats possible.

If it isn’t and you really need to pattern bodies, unfortunately there is not auto-combine feature available, and the pattern tool only allows a semi parametric workflow, requiring you to manually adjust the following combine operation.

Hi, so if I have a pattern of bodies that's all touching each other, a boolean addition can merge all of them. But, changing the number of pattern instances breaks this operation because combine doesn't have a "select all" option, it must be explicitly told which specific bodies to combine.

Someone once posted a trick to get around this and I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know the trick to doing it?

So the reason why this works trivially is because the pattern select is a feature type extrusion (where you just select the extrude command previously, in the timeline). That'll only work if your feature is simple like a single extrude. I'm talking about generalizing this to a complex body that you need to repeat and merge together.

When you merge bodies, you always have to select a main body and tool bodies, and the number of tool bodies is not a dynamic thing.

F3d is supported, but the attaching of them is broken.

create a reply message, and post it, then in the message, there is a menu, 3 dots, upper right,

select Edit Reply

in that screen under the message area is an Attachment window, click on the word “browse” and find / select your exported file and Post that reply.

We should see your file, download and investigate.

Yes - the trick is to pattern the *timeline* operation, not the body. By way of example, here's a parametric lego brick I made: https://gallery.autodesk.com/projects/157380/parametric-lego-brick

And here's the forum posting where everyone else showed me how to do this:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/can-anyone-think-of-a-way-to-make-patterns-work-parametrically/td-p/10012066
