Sweep failing with an ellipse !

Sweep is failing with an ellipse, the design is generated through a python script, check the following:

1) Ellipse minor radius is 0.08 mm sweep error !

2) Manually changing the radius to whatever value is working !

What's weird is that if I di this change in the python script it is failing with the same error shown !

Any ideas ?

Hi,

Since there is no history with the DWG, you cannot analyze the sweep process.

Please share a f3d (with history).

The profile does not appear to be perpendicular to the path in your images.

Note that if I made the disntance 0.9999 it would work ! but still I need to be on the full path

Even the parallel choice doesn't work, it is saying self intersecting

Hi,

From my point of view, the error message is initially caused because of the segmented path (missing tangential transitions).
Tip: Create a clean path!

Is there a logical reason that you are doing the Path as straight line segments rather than as curves?

Does this look aesthetically pleasing to you?

How will this be manufactured?

Sorry for the late response, actually this is the toolpath of a 3D printer generated from a the tool points exported from a slicer.

So this is how its done.

Also, I don't think this is what is causing the issue, because when I run the python script, in Fusio360 it I get the error, and when I try to do it manually also the same error appears. For some reason, when I only slightly change the minor radius +/- 0.005mm) of the ellipse the sweep operation works ! If I used the exact same radius in the script, it will not work !

Hi,

If you continue to exclude the imported path as the cause, you will not get the desired result.

Generating a model and exporting it in stl file for further analysis.

The model is created from ellipses sweeped along the toolpathes that can be seen in the pictures or the uploaded file

What do you think is the best way to improve the path ? I mean what other than segmented lines ? 3 point Arc ?

I tried that from fusion directly but its not working. Even though I'm choosing the third point of the arc as the center of the ellipse, when I exit the sketch the path is clearly not in the center point and the sweep is causing Fusion to crash. please check the following image.

Hi,

Did you watch the screencast in my post #8?
You need to make "clean" transitions between sketch elements as a priority.

I was expecting you to describe the Design Intent as an effort to create a layered body replicating the way a 3D printer extruder nozzle lays down the material along linear paths.
