Mesh to solid body not working, can anyone help please?

Hi All,

I have tried to figure this out myself but to no avail. I have a mesh object that I have uploaded to fusion, turned off history, and dragged it into the workspace but cannot do anything to it, when i select it and go to convert under the modify section it deselects and wont let me select it for some reason. Can anyone help please? I have attatched the file, it is the insta360 go 2 camera direct from insta360 website.go 2 3d model

I think for this simple geometry I would remodel from scratch to achieve much better quality.

Thank you for your response but to be honest I dont need anything more detailed than the model, and without being able to change this to a solid body i cant get the measurements i need.

There are all kinds of internal detail in the mesh.

Do you need that internal detail?

I could model the external geometry from the mesh dimensions.

This would be good practice for you if you don't have a lot of Fusion experience.

This was just a quick mock-up, but should get you started. (See Attached)

What do you mean you dragged it into the workspace? You should use Insert Mesh and with the new mesh tools you don't need to disable history, actually you never needed to disable history. Just a lot of people didn't know what they're doing.

Thats very kind of you thank you. I do not have a lot of experience with fusion, just basic shapes, fillets etc to get the models i have needed in the past to 3d print or create a step file. I did start modelling the rear contacts off the original mesh to get started and think i can do it (with a lot of patience and googling) I just thought i would be able to convert the original file to a solid body (only showing as a component or mesh) to be able to create a nice usb case for testing the contacts.

Normally you can - ~~but there is a lot of internal rubbish hidden inside this outer case.~~

Am I missing something? The file you shared appears to be a MeshBody, not a Solid Body?

No you've done more than enough, thank you. I do try and work this stuff out for myself instead of asking the same questions that have probably been answered a million times but all of the solutions were getting me knowhere. I thought it may have something to do with the amount of information in the model but wasn't sure. Thank you.

@Anonymous Do you have the hobby or commercial version of Fusion?

The start of the screencast shows import and separating the model, think this works the same for both versions. Then I use the prismatic conversion on the simple parts to convert to surfaces. On the more complicated parts just a basic conversion to a faceted body.

Hi,

I have the hobbyist version, I will give this a go asap but this looks to be an amzing solution. I have been part of plenty of forums but I've never experienced this much help before, thank you so much.

Just tried this solution, I think this is what one of the other users did but unfortuately when converting mesh you can only covert to faceted with the free version which leaves you with a lot of surfaces to deal with.. I think i may have to try modelling it if i can't find another command that will do something similar to a prismatic conversion. Thank you though, anything learned is never a bad thing.
