Fusion 360 is a very logical sequenced application. The reason you cannot change the first component opacity by selecting the component is, if you remember, you made the body 10% opacity BEFORE you changed it into a component. Fusion 360 remembers this so it will not allow a change unless you try and change the opacity from the BODY level. Component 2 neve did have the opacity changed on the body level so you can use the component level.

I also included a short demo of the proper method of keeping your sketches and bodies under the component they belong to.

in your case you don't set the opacity up or down but go to the material display and set the corresponding parameters there. br mango
ps: you have to enter your file at the bottom of the line next to the blue cloud.

I found the problem by accident. The attached screenshot shows what I did first time to get low opacity - which didn't work. However, when I selected the top containing component, the opacity control worked.

I didn't know this particular restriction existed.

I'm also going to try to add my Screencast again.

The Opacity control, for a body in a component, works but displays differently depending on a setting in your Preferences. The Screencast will explain.

When I originally posted this problem I tried John's solution, and it worked. I'm now working on a new model. I created two bodies and needed to make one to 10% opacity in order to check clearances. Whilst body1 was still at 10% I converted the two bodies to components and applied a joint between them - which works fine. But now I want to reset body1 to 100% opacity, and it just won't do it. I can change body2 to any opacity I like, but body1 will not budge from 10%. I've tried with "Active Component Visibility" in "Design Preferences" on or off, but it makes no difference. I cannot change the opacity value for body1 at all.

I've attached the .f3d just in case anybody's interested.

PS. I've tried applying a white paint appearance, to no effect. It's still 10%.

I think you got confused because you changed your bodies into components. Opacity controls work on Bodies not components. Drill down into your component and apply the opacity control to the body of the component. By the way, you need to change your mode of working. Create your component first, in your assembly, activate it and all sketches, bodies, features will automatically fall under it. As you are doing now, the sketches are not included with their respective component. Model is attached,

Thank you again. That solved my problem, but there's an inconsistency here. I could change the opacity of component2 from 100% to 10% and back to 100%, but it just didn't work with component1. It would not shift from 10%. Your method of changing body1 did work though.

So why is it possible to change component2, but not component1? That's the inconsistency.
