I want you to know that the "Select Other" function is a standard feature in all Fusion 360 License versions. I want to be sure you know that this function is not activated by a left click while hovering over a surface or face, it is a left click "hold" until the Select Other menu appears. Also the hover point must be over a point that, if you drilled a hole down from your hover point, you would hit the face, profile, feature, etc. below it. Also make sure the Selection Filters are activated for the features you want to select. I do not have a screen capture handy at this time to show this filter. I would like you to have this link to a Fusion 360 Quick tip that may help.

The use of this tool is only a convenience, you can simply turn over the model to select a hidden surface.

Hi, folks. First, a disclaimer, as I'm a biologist who likes to tinker with engineering projects and woodworking. I've been learning F360 over the past 2 years, but I'm stuck on a task where my goal is to simply cut out an evergreen tree line from 0.25" stock. The issue must rest with the sketch, which appeared to be complete as I could extrude the sketch, but the process fails in Manufacture when I apply a 2D contour. I've attached the exported .f3d file in the hopes that someone could identify the root issue and get me back on track.

Regards,

Ryan

The error, as I see it, was the Machine you had assigned in the Setup. It did not have a post processor assigned so it was failing. Remove it and all works as expected. Model is attached.

Thanks, @jhackney1972. I only recently started selecting a machine and it has always had an associated PP and worked in the past. When I went to my file, removed the setup, and started again without a machine, it still doesn't work (see attached screenshot), but I'll just use your file to get the job done. I find these seemingly minor issues annoying, but I'll persevere in trying to figure out what may have gone wrong.

-Ryan

I apoligize, I did not mention, or show, that there are missing references in the 2D Contour. The Screencast will show what I failed to describe.

Thanks, @jhackney1972. That screencast was helpful and I was able to follow along. However, I see now that I'm missing the 'face selection' functionality that you demonstrated. In order to select the boundary, I was selecting the sketch as my geometry and that must have been what caused missing edges. But again, I tried to replicate your mouse motion, which appeared to be a long left-click, to no avail. I'm specifically referencing what you did at the 0:39 mark of the screencast where a context menu appeared with tabs named 'Depth' and 'Parents.' I've never seen this before, so is there a setting that I've missed to allow for faces to be selected as you showed?

Ryan

After figuring out that this is the 'Select Other' feature, which should activate when left-clicking on a face, I'm also seeing users post that this behavior is unreliable with 2D contour in particular. Thus, it appears that I should have this functionality, but my F360 simply isn't working the same as yours, @jhackney1972. That being said, I really appreciate the assistance you've provided, so thank you!

Ryan
