3d Sketch define faces from edges?

I created a sketch in the 24.75 neck blank (sketch9 neck carve copy).

I joined two shapes at the corners on different planes to create a 3d shape i think. I can only select the small plane at the bottom (or top depending on perspective). They are trapezoidal ? in shape.

I want to be able to carve this guitar neck using the 'side faces' of the sketch as 'facets' to remove wood from the body called 'neck taper cut tool' in the top level component.

I'm on a Mac. Do you mean CommandB? When I press that i get the following but they don't seem related. I am a Fusion 360 newbie but I managed to build this guitar over the last year. The body is done and machined with CNC. The neck is machined square for the pilot neck. Im now working on further 'carving' the back of the neck so i can machine it to a rough back carve.

The simplest things like sketching and selecting throw me for loops in fusion sometimes....i know what i want to do but its a steep learning curve to lear all the ins and outs of fusion 360. Thanks to this forum for getting me this far!

Sketch profiles are defined to be 2D only. Only one side of your sketch is planar.

However, if what you want to do is to turn this into a solid, get there via surface Loft + surface Patch + Stitch:

Super cool. This is what I was going after and it wasn't difficult after you showed me how to loft. Very much appreciated man. Just had to split and combine bodies till i had the 3 pieces I needed.

Let me ask you an honest question: Are you interested in doing this correctly, or do you just want to complete the project and move on?

This is a prototype...with real production to come. So i need to evolve it and fix the issues.

I'm on revision 100 of the 3rd or 4th body design and that is able to produce guitars on my CNC.

I'm on revision 4 of the neck design.

I've been at this a year....so I won't give up.

Ok. In that case, the first thing you need to work on is your sketching skills. Don't use 3D sketches as they are not needed for this design and are also usually harder to control than 2D sketches.

Your sketches should be fully defined, meaning they should be fully constrained and dimensioned.

Right now your design can easily be destroyed by accident.

Symmetric geometry should be centered around one, or nore origin planes and hot just "end up" somewhere in space.

That means you start this already when sketching.

Once you got a few things down, you'll be surprised how much easier the things you've been battling with can be achieved!

Thanks Peter. I appreciate the advice.

I will try and find some tutorials or video courses on proper sketching. I used to have zero constraints in my stuff. Now most of my sketches I believe have some. However, I find when i get the red lock or they are too constrained i can't move things around like they need to be. I re-did that trapezoidal sketch to facet the neck and I think i have the proper constraints on it and it is now symmetrical as i mirror copied things around a centre axis.

Not sure what you mean by origin planes and being in space....i will have to look that up. This tool is very complete but complicated for a beginner like me. I'm a software engineer by trade. Never have done mechanical engineering. I do this in my spare time. I've started building guitars by hand about 3 years ago. Im on number 9, which is the first CNC build.

Check me out @violette.guitars on IG....the one I'm working on now with this fusion design is on there and body is built. Thank you so much for your pointers. I will research these to get better at my sketches.

Hi Peter and CADWhisperer,

I have now build 3 guitars on my CNC with this design (see picture - the blue one is the prototype i build completely by hand and reverse engineered with Fusion 360).

Everything worked fine in the CNC tool paths on my home built CNC. I now can program the full neck pocket and angle as I just did a partial depth pocket for the three and finished by hand with router and template.

I am now "re-desiging" from scratch with fusion 360 to fix the mess and do it properly.

The videos and threads you both shared were great. I have now redesigned some sketches and am able to get them fully constrained with the tips and the "Fix" operation combined. I will also make "components" to be able to plug and play into different variations. Also I need to figure out how to "assemble" the guitar in F360 so that things are where they should be.
