Okay, now I have a new problem. I've include the actual model I want to produce. It uses a crosshatch pattern universally found in Mission style hardware. I've set the model up as you discussed before, and now I have a new warning about collisions. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

I've uploaded the file. I can't understand how this program can't make a toolpath for a simple slot.

I would not use a 2D Pocket toolpath for this. I would use a 2D Contour. One other major problem was that you assigned a 1/4" diameter tool for a slot that is only 1/8" wide. In my submitted model I used an 1/8" diameter, which was in your model, but it would be best to use a small tool so it does not cut both sides of the slot at the same time. Model is attached.

Very good John, I see my error, especially the incorrect choice of the tool. I had it in my head the slot was 1/4, but it's 1/8. I did understand the reasoning behind changing the lead in, but not the lead in sweep angle. Could you please explain the relevance of that in this particular operation? Now another thing. I do have a 1/8" and a 1/16 bit, but I'm afraid to use the 1/16 bit right now because I broke the first one I tried to use. It's a very high quality Amana bit, and I've got the spindle speed correct and the rest of the tool parameters get fed into Fusion from my Amana tool library. The first time I tried using the bit, I was cutting only 1/16" deep into some pretty soft plywood. It only took a minute or so for the bit to break. Luckily the Amazon seller I bought it from got it replaced under warranty, but I think there's something I don't understand about using a bit that small.

The lead in and lead out are just to keep from nicking the end corners of the slot. You can make the any angle anything you like, here is 0 degree again keeping it way from the slot corners. As far as the tool size, do you have a 9/32" diameter tool? You also can use the Multiple Depths setting, under the Passes tab to take very fine cuts if using the 1/16" diameter bit.

Got it, thanks for the elaboration. I don't currently have a 9/32 bit, but I could get one. It's a good idea for carving a 1/4" slot in two passes. Thanks!

This one has me stumped also. I think it would be best to start a new thread on the Manufacturing Forum. You will get a lot more exposure there for this type of problem

Hi again John,

Well, I got it to work. Turns out the problem was with the diameter of the bit in relation to the width of the pocket. I changed the bit size to 1/16" for a 1/8" pocket, and I did, in fact, use the 2d pocket method. Worked flawlessly. File attached.

You're welcome John, I like to share the knowledge like you. I've attached a photo of my first test run. I somehow cut my stock too small at the table saw, so that's why the bottom holes are on the edge.
