Hi! I am doing some reorganization of some supplies in storage at my work. It is not feasible to test possible configurations of how many of certain items can fit in a box manually, so I would like to model this before actually doing the reorganization.

I've been able to create a component of one of the items to test how many I can fit in the box, as well as I believe a body of the wooden crate that they will be going in. I'm not sure how to go further with this because I cannot clearly see if the item is flush within the box, and sometimes when I move the item it goes through the back of the box. Is there a way that a rule can be created that it will reject the placement if it doesn't fit?

I don't know if joining the surfaces is the best way either because I need to be able to move the components to see what ways they can fit in the crate.

Thank you so much!!

Your component or body is likely moving around because it's not grounded, the simple workaround for this is to right-click the component and click "fix". Once it's fixed I'd recommend rectangular patterning these components until the box is filled, then you could possibly use the interference tool under the inspect tab to see if any of the bodies are intersecting. You could use parameters to link the relationship between the size of the body and the rectangular pattern but really your only option is to brute force the problem with multiple bodies and the interference command.

It would also be very helpful to export your Fusion file and upload it to this post so we can all take a look at it and help you further.

Thanks

Hi! Here is the file. I'm very new to the software and only have used AutoCAD for a course around four years ago. The dimensions for the objects in the file right now are correct. I have six other different dimensions of items that would need to go in the crate. I'm essentially just trying to see how many of each item, or how many of a few items will fit in the crates.

Hi,

Moving and trying is an inappropriate way to reorganise a box. It is better to determine the quantities mathematically and also to use the variables in a parameter list.
Without calculation, however, you can do it with patterns, as I demonstrate in the screencast.

günther

Hello,

Here's a quick and easy way of doing it, I figure this would be the best because your objects are simple. I've uploaded a screencast of the workflow addressing both of your issues, and provided you with the updated fusion file. Let me know if this helps!

https://autode.sk/3pcyJMq
