Thanks for giving this a shot @laughingcreek. Unfortunately the ribbed sections on the box you created are actually the opposite of what I was trying to create on mine. I need the overall thickness of the walls to be 3mm. In the recessed areas in between those "ribs" the thickness will only be 1.8mm. At the fattest part of each protrusion it will be 1.2mm. The very top of the box and the very bottom of the box do not get beveled. I've included a screenshot of a different box I created that hopefully illustrates the wall profile better than my explanation. 🙂 Also the back of the box does not have ribs on it. It should be completely flat.

Unable to chamfer with different dimensions

Hi all. I'm trying to create a square box with rounded corners that have 5mm wide "ribs" on each face except the back. Those protrusions stick out 1.2mm. I want to chamfer the edges 1mm on the face and then 1.2mm going back towards the inside of the box so that the each rib is 3mm wide on the outside and 5mm on the inside. When I use the chamfer function the system will allow both dimensions to be 1mm. However, if I try to set the second dimension to 1.2mm I get the following "Error: There was a problem combining geometry together.
If attempting a Join/Cut/Intersect, try to ensure that the bodies have a clear overlap (problems can occur where faces and edges are nearly coincident)." I'm not sure what I can do in order to get around this issue. I've posted a copy of the F3D file in case that might be useful. Thanks in advance for any help!

the file is just an illustration of a process. edit the profile sketch for the sweep till you get what you want. for instance just repositioning a line in that sketch yielded this result instead-

Thanks for the tip and the examples! I've never used that sweep pattern before. I will check out how it works and see if I can get the desired result. It certainly seems a lot easier than creating a bunch of sketches and extruding those like I've been doing. 🙂

@laughingcreekis there a good tutorial on how to create the initial sketch in the wall of the box that can be utilized for the sweep function?

No, I don't keep up with tutorials. A good foundation in sketching techniques is a good start. one of the biggest sticking points with sweeps is insuring your sketch profile is perpendicular/normal to the sweep path.
