Hook

Hi everyone,

I am continuing to learn fusion by trying to create models of drawings that are in my 40-year-old drafting textbook. I'm having some trouble with this hook. I have recreated the drawing, but I'm not sure how to make it into a solid. I know the loft or sweep functions should do the trick, but I'm not sure how to make them use the lines I have created. I also don't know why my ellipse fragment (bottom right) turns from black to blue after I trim it down from a full ellipse.

No such thing as an approximate ellipse.

2 point spline and Tangent connections should work.

Sweep major portion with the circle profile.

Create (Revolve) a partial sphere at the tip,

Loft from the Sweep to the modified Sphere, using Tangent conditions in the Loft.

The reason is the ~~half~~quarter-baked implementation of the ellipse.

You can make your hook in a similar way.

Are all of your sketches fully defined (no blue curves or white points)?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

(I had my students model this Hook for 25 years.)

I could have used Sweep for all of the circular cross section as suggested by @davebYYPCU , but using Loft give you more options on the shape of the cross-section as illustrated by @wersy .

I suggest you try both ways. (Replace my Revolves.)

I seem to have figured out how to do everything -except make that ellipse turn black.

The more you look, the easier it can be. (one sketch)

Takes some thinking to keep the ellipse constrained. Adding geometry to the ellipse would sometimes unconstrain it.

I broke the Ellipse and made the larger side construction.
