I'm failing to understand the process to patch this surface to create a smooth contour that follows this grip profile?

When I use the patch tool it finds all of the edges great, but it creates a shape that points out very far. I played around with interior rails which seems to change the shape but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to work.

In one word. Yes!

Fusion 360 would have to be able to read your mind in order for it to create the object you have in mind.

This would not be a single surface and the patch tool is the wrong command.

If this is your first project in Fusion 360 I'd recommend starting with something easier.

patch won't work here. and it will be a multi step process using several different tools.

You'll have to use a process similar to a fix I posted for you in a different thread. but it will be more complicated. some of the geometry will have to be temporarily disconnected and new geometry built over it, followed by some sketching and few surface features like loft, possibly an extrude or sweep. and then the disconnected geometry integrated back in.

have you gone through what was done for the other fix? do you understand all of it? if not you'll need to step back and learn a few techniques and concepts before you'll be able to pull this off.

I want to follow a similar curvature to the sketch. Doesn’t have to be exact but I just wanted it to wrap around the pack along that same curvature.

you have 2 options
first one you can make just patch .. and this is the result

second option you can make midplane and project the sketch then use sweep tool with path
then complete you step process with what you want to want

Hope it helped
