Help, I'm stuck and don't see an obvious way to do this.

I need to create a sketch that I can use to drive the location and orientation of a component.

The component is an extruded aluminum profile that I have in my library that I am dragging and dropping into my design.

Once dropped into it, I can move and rotate it using the handles in the move command.

It would be nice to be able to constrain it to a plane or sketch features at this stage.

Creating the sketch is no issue, but I can't seem to find a method to constrain a component to the sketch so that its placement updates as I change the parameters (dimensions) of the sketch?

Thanks in advance

I can get this to work if I create the part and a corresponding sketch in my new design and joint it to a pre-existing sketch, but not when I drag a component into my design and try and do this.

Maybe I've missed something in your video?

You have to create the sketch inside the component you want to position (using Joints, Align Component, or Move Component). So, if this design is an external design, open that design, and make sure that the sketch you are adding is owned by the component that you wish to position. If you can share your model here, we can show you.

Cool, I totally get what you've written.

I'll give it a go, and if I don't get it, I'll be back (to quote Arnold).

Thanks!
