Hello,

I want to create a hole in a body with a curved/warped surface. As it's curved, I can't direcly create a sketch on the surface.

My idea was to create a point on an YZ offset plane, project it to the surface and then use fusion's hole function. But I can't get this to work.

The reason why I don't just want to extrude a hole from this YZ offset plane is, that the hole would then go horizontally through this surface. But the surface is not vertical.

My ideal would be that the hole "automatically" is positioned orthogonally to the surface. The YZ offset plane would just be used to set the starting point of that hole. Is this possible?

Here's a screenshot:

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you 🙂

If I select tangent planes I can't select the face of the body. I think because it's curved in multiple directions. It's more like a warped mesh.

2. Find the file attached. It's a bit messy because of all the weird geometry.

Hi,

What you need is a plane tangent to face at point.

1. create a sketch on offst plane, project the profile and position a sketch element (circle..)

2. create another sketch > Create > project to surface

3. create a plane tangent to face at point > circle with wanted diameter

4 . extrude cut (two sides)

Screencast

For the hole, extrusion must be performed in two directions because of the concave surface.

günther

Thank you very much! That works!
I wasn't aware that I have to generate 3 sketches for this operation. I still don't understand the logic why I can't "project to surface" with the first sketch, but have to generate a second one just for that.
