in the mean time, it's not particularly hard to get a sheet metal body into a new component.

-use "boundary fill" to create a new body from the original sheet metal body to another component

-use "convert to sheet metal" on the new body

a work around for sure but might save some time if you don't want to recreate everything.

EVERY TIME.

If I make a sheet metal part, why would I ever want it to be a body of another component?? Your rules dictate that there can only be one flat pattern per component, so why would anyone EVER want two sheet metal parts in on component?????? Never!!

Why take the time to design a sheet metal part and not want to, idk, cut it with a laser and fold it to shape? Oh, but oops! you didn't change the silly drop down from "new body" to "new component" when you made the first flange. Now you've spent 30 minutes tweaking and adjusting every detail, only to realize it was all a waste of time because you have to start all over, because GOD FORBID we could make a sheet metal body its own component. Nope, forever stuck in its original component.

Why would you even make it possible to create a sheet metal part in a way that you can't generate the information to actually make the design???
