Unlink Body from Sketch

So I am trying to make a bunch of name plates in fusion 360 and i mean allot of them. What i want to do is Edit the sketch to say what i need, then make a copy of the body and disconnect the new body from the original sketch so that i can edit the sketch for the next model. Right now if i make a copy of the body and change the sketch both the new and old body are changed which of course doesn't work for me.

If what i want to do is not possible is there a better workflow than making and individual sketch and body for each name plate i need.

Your best bet is to switch to creating the individual name plates as Components and then use Copy and Paste/New to get a completely independent component. If you have to stick to bodies, for some reason, I outlined that process as well in the Screencast.

So i was basically already doing what you were talking about with the body method but my list of sketches was getting really long so i was looking for a better way.

The main reason i wasn't using components is because i like the ability to group my bodies together into a folder...what i was hoping for is something like Paste New but for bodies however that feature doesn't seam to exist?

I think the approach i am going to take is to make the part i want then export it then modify the sketch and export the modified part over and over again till i am done...

hello, maybe i don't understand the problem completely, but i'm doing a body duplication with row arrangement.
each of these bodies can be named and turned into a component if necessary. a sketch can be projected onto each body in the series and changes can be made. there you have a general overview of all bodies/modifications. it is easy to copy any body from it. I wish you success! BR mango

What i wanted to do was:

make a body
sketch and emboss text on the body
copy the body
edit the sketch and update the original body without changing the copied body.
repeat steps 3 and 4 about 500 times.

But the copied bodies remain linked to the sketch and are all updated when the sketch is updated.

If you can get the text, formatted and sorted, then pattern a matching set of bodies and extrude cut the text in one go.

can you be a bit more specific about what you need? the best answer given here was @jhackney1972 's suggestion to component copy/paste new. the OP probably would have been happy just turning the timeline off, as they didn't seem to be concerned with maintaining parametric ability.

there have been some significant improvements since the original post, so there may be better solutions available now if we had an understating of your needs

Hi,

I am not exactly sure what you want to change on each body but if you have the Fusion Manufacturing Extension

you might be able to customise it with this.

Create a base feature and while in the base feature, use the boundary fill tools to "copy" the geometry of the original body into the base feature.

Finish the base feature. Done!
