looks like your looking for a cam follower type geometry. Like @jhackney1972 says, a straight emboss isn't the right tool. you can use an emboss or Sheetmetal workflow to get a tool surface that you then thicken to create the slot. that will give you the type of geometry your looking for. attached is an example using emboss, but some cam paths will be easier to get right with Sheetmetal. see attached.

Emboss wall angle

So, I was trying to use the emboss tool to create a contour along a diameter. it worked almost perfectly but the problem I am running into is the angle of the wall. the blueprint shows the walls of the angled slot to be steeper than it's allowing me to make them with emboss tool. it looks like the emboss tool assumes a perpendicular wall to the outside diameter. Is there any way I can change the angle of that wall? (Specifically, the section that tapers out of the part attached). Thanks in advance for any help.

You emboss sketches are not constrained. I constrained them enough to add the angle dimension and increase it to 70 degrees to show you can do it. You did not say what angle you wanted. Model is attached.

Thats not the wall i was talking about. I should have constrained it better before i sent the file but this picture shows better what i mean. from top to bottom of the slot it tapers in. and it need to stay consistent.

If the taper of the slot is the issue, then Emboss is not the operation you want. All embossing, on the surface of rounded objects, taper inward to the center of the body. If you want to maintain square walls, you will probably need to employ a method to transfer the sketch, to the curved surface first, then extrude. You could try the Project to Surface sketch command or use the wrapped sheet metal technique of sketch transfer. Probably the second method will be the most foolproof.

This worked out perfectly for what i was looking for. and i was able to just pattern it 180 once i got the one side how i wanted it. thanks a lot for the help.
