topic align free move pivot to world? in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

Hi,

im often using imported meshes as references for my designs. That means moving and aligning these meshes often.

I like the free move tool with its ability to move and rotate at the same time and also quickly change the pivot.

However the pivot only aligns to the local geometry and within a mesh and thats its all over the place. (see screenshot)

I could use the translate function which can be set to align to world, but it doesnt have a rotate function.

and last but not least the rotate function requires to set or choose an axis which isnt very handy as well.

So my question is: is there a way to use the free move tool, still chose a custom pivot on the body, but just align the pivot to world coordinates?

Hi @Sungod3000,

Thanks for posting to the Fusion 360 forum.

I did check and found that while selecting and Moving the Mesh it will only give the direction from the reference to the Origine.

Here is the screencast for the same, if you are facing a similar or different issue here, Please capture a screencast video for the same and we will take a look into that.

Thanks,

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the screencast. I tried that and youre right, your method work in mesh mode, however in order to use the imported scan for reference (eg to project the model to sketches) the scan needs to be a normal body in the "solid"-workspace. and in solid mode the move command behaves as I described above.

Hi @Sungod3000 ,

Thanks for the reply, correct with the solid body the snap point changes the orientation, but we can select the main origin or any other reference that will give the correct orientation to set the pivot.

before changing the set pivot it must be required to select the body and then change the pivot position.

please accept the solution if it helps.

Cheers..!
