Hi I am trying to convert a STL to solid using Fusion 360 here is the file that I am trying to convert. I have followed many tutorials online and none of them have worked. Could some one tell me what I am doing wrong. Here is what the object looks like when I try and convert it. Please advise.

I fired up Fusion360 > File > Upload > Selected the STL file provided by you > waited for few seconds > import seems to be working fine for me.

Is this how it was supposed to look?

Yes! I can get that far but I need to make it a STEP file so a mesh wont work for this application.

Did the STEP work for you? If so, please mark those solutions by pressing the "Accept Solution" icon. This will do three things. It will remove the question from the active list, it will allow others to find the answer to a similar question and last it will acknowledge the effort and time of the poster(s) supplying an answer.

If you need further help, please ask giving further details of your needs.

If you've tried to convert this using the prismatic conversion, the that will unlikely result in the desired prismatic BRep results. This mesh is missing quite a few faces.

What is it you want to do with the end result ?

I used the make tooling like this.
The biggest tip I can give you is to walk out to the shop floor and see how it is manufactured. No special processes.
If you don’t have that advantage of seeing actual manufacture of the tool (not use of the tool - actual making of the tool) you will be at a disadvantage. It is Extrudes and Revolves. Some of the Revolves are made at angles. Attach the *.f3d file of your progress here for diagnosis at each and every step. Again, do it like you would make it on the shop floor.
