Loft point maps don't save

I'm doing a loft where I want the loft to go "straight up", similar to this post. However, when I move the loft points, they move in the preview, but when I save/close the loft, they always revert back to the twist that was originally there.

In the image, you can see one of the map points in black, and then the second purple (projected) line clockwise shows it's "matching pair" for the shape (lofting from the 3-point shape to a circle). I'd ideally have a matching loft to the black lines (that saves).

As can be seen from the bolt-hole near the bottom (which is centered), the twisted loft makes things look awkward.

I was also hoping to snap the map points to the sketch points, rather than "guess", but I can't get this to work either.

Any ideas on how to get the loft points to stay where I put them (the preview works fine - no errors), and/or to snap to the points on the sketch?

Don't rely on Fusion's point mapping. Use one, or more rails.

I also have worked around the problem using individual surface lofts. More work, but provides reliable results.

Thanks for the ideas. How would I use multiple surface lofts in this scenario - it seems to me it would create the same shape, just hollow? Or have I missed something?
Also, I think I'd have to create at least 6 planes with 6 sketches to provide rails, which seems fraught with "things to go wrong", unless I'm looking at it the wrong way?
And also, this is not a go at you, but at Autodesk - it's a bit worrying how often the solution is to work around a feature not working well / as advertised / as expected.

Solid lofting has its benefits, and when it works, it is very quick. However, it can also be very limiting, so I prefer surface-based workflows.

Just want to make sure that you understand that after modeling the Surfaces you can Stitch to a Solid body.

There are also some Tangency options that you might be missing with your technique.
