Thanks @jhackney1972 and @laughingcreek,

And yes, the holes are created using a pattern on path function and that's going around the bend... When unfolding and recutting the holes, I get the normal & correct DXF output.

I've put both solutions in my notes. Much appreciated! 👍

I have a weird error here, whilst trying to export the flat pattern for a curved plate with some holes in it to a DXF file?

This is a single item from a multi-component customer model, that I can't share here - but the error reproduces perfectly when reading in this attached STEP model.

The flat pattern is created perfectly, without any issue - but trying to export it gives an "unexpected error" message & the export fails.

I first tried to remove only the countersink from the holes - but that didn't improve the situation. I *could* get a successful export, when removing all the holes completely.... but those are needed: that's why we're trying to make the DXF in the first place.

I worked around it, by placing the flat pattern in a 1:1 2D drawing & exported that to DXF - the sheet metal shop will be able to work from that.

But how to solve this, so I can provide a "normal" DXF from a flat pattern that is created & depicted perfectly correct?

Thanks!

[ Edit ]

The DXF writing error appears to be triggered by the 4 holes in the bend - even though the flat pattern is created without any error, the DXF routine can't write those out. Is this a bug that needs some TLC?

I know this is not what you wanted to hear but if you take the Flat Pattern to the 2D Drawing, it exports just fine as a DXF. DXF is attached.

Well, as I described - that's what I did as a work-around. However, your file is without the drawing template - in my version that was still in: I had forgotten, we can switch that off. 😎

As you said, it's not really *the* solution I was looking for, but I'll take it! Many thanks for the reminder. 👍

the holes in the bent portion are causing the problem. they appear to have been created while the part was bent and not flat, which is producing odd geometry when flattened, and the exporter can't seem to handle it. if you create those holes on the unbent body, the export works.

i don't know if this would be considered a bug, or a limitation. @jeff_strater ?
