Trouble Trying to Fillet Corners

Hey everyone,

I'm really new to Fusion360 and I'm trying to fillet the 4 corners in my 3D file for a keyboard case. For the life of me I can't figure out why I CAN fillet some corners for 6mm, and then can't fillet the other edges, even though the corners seem identical. I tried dragging the arrow for the fillet and for some reason big fillets DO work, for example 115mm, so it's not because F360 does not want to alter the neighboring bodies too much or because the 2mm fillet is restricted by other lines, right?. Really small fillets work, which is limited to 2mm. The fillet size that I DO want does not work.

I figure it must be because of some unconstrained line but I would appreciate a thorough walkthrough on how to fix these lines.

The video will explain your issue but in a nutshell you have multiple edges in your model. These edges are often caused by creating a sketch on an existing face for the sole purpose of extruding the face a little thicker. If you simply extrude the face or offset the face, you will not get these edges. I will not return the model as it is a F3Z file and I am not sure you would know what to do with it or how to view it.

The first time my heart sunk was when the design uploaded and I could already see in the data panel that you are working with almost fully unconstrained and undimensioned sketches. That is almost always a guarantee for problems.

The second time my heart sunk was when I loaded the design and I saw warnings in the timeline of the design which is the result of a complete hack-slash-bodge design workflow.

The third time my heart sank was when I watched @jhackney1972's screencast not addressing any of that.

I think I am going to retreat for the evening, have a beer, eat dinner and watch some educational Youtube videos.

Let us know if you are interested in proper design techniques. We can then possibly discuss how to create this from scratch.

Yeah, I get kinda confused with the blue lines/black lines thing, having moved from Sketchup. I actually had the model done in Sketchup, but it wasn't an ideal software for solid modelling so I had to redo the whole thing in F360. What I did was export a bunch of sections from Sketchup, than trace them in F360.

I know this forum is for specific questions only-and I apologize for not having the basic knowledge of proper techniques, but any starters of proper design techniques would be really helpful!

Thank you so much for taking your time to make the screencast, I was getting downright frustrated. I realize that I lack proper design technique such as constraining lines and dimensioning sketches, as TrippyLighting pointed out, but your screencast at least helped me solve my direct problems.

You just don't realize the extend of how far away you are form these techniques.

My recommendation would be to complete one of the courses available directly from within Fusion 360.

You will certainly still have questions, but you will be much, much better equipped to ask those questions.

I am trying to round over a wooden cube but fillet just does not give me what I want.

I have enclosed a photo of the desired shape.

tagging on to old posts with new questions tends to limit how many people will look at it and answer. better to create a new thread of you own. and include a model when possible (export as a .f3d file and attach at bottom of post).

more to the question-fillet will be the wrong tool for that shape. you will need to do a revolve cut to get that shape.
