Multiple Sketch Lines

Hi,

I'm building an instrument panel for an airplane. I have one sketch as the main panel and each of the instrument cutout holes as its own sketch, six in total so far. I've been dimensioning each instrument hole sketch off of the horizontal and vertical lines of the main panel sketch but now it seems each instrument has made its own horizontal and vertical line to reference itself. Now I have six horizontal lines of the main sketch (see pic). I take it that I'm doing something wrong! When I position each one, should I be referencing each off of the main origin instead? Is there an easy way to clean this up? Each time I delete one of those 6 horizontal lines, I lose the source reference for that instrument hole.

Appreciate any advice.

Mike

You might have mis understood some of Fusion's workings.

Your system is working as is. Fix the broken sketch with Manage Lost Projections, by reselecting the 2 respective lines from Sketch 1. (Referencing from the purple lines, means you can't delete them, and each sketch has them overlayed, so not ideal.)

For each new sketch, Fusion automatically places the sketch / document origin point into the empty sketch when created. Referencing 2 dimensions to that point, is all you need. but it appears you are referencing the sides and bottom panel line, therefore they are Projected (purple) into each sketch, does the same job but is twice the workload.

Empty sketch - reference to this point instead.

That you have one sketch per instrument is a good idea at the time until you want to make the panel. At that time you will not get the panel in one extrude, but for your system you need at least one extrude per sketch, maybe more.

Could also depend on whether you want to use the Hole Tool, or sketch circles for the Extrude cut, can't tell from here.

Might help.....

So I got that all to work out, sort of. I referenced each sketch to the origin but now I have a new sketch point for each one.

Also, am I better off making this all one sketch instead of a compilation of several?

What is the end game, cutting one panel - would be one sketch at my place, but for neat and tidy one Extrude for each sketch is also a recommended practice, so down to your preferred workflow.

Which answers the first question, yes multiple sketches will contain the point of origin in each, by necessity will be listed as you have it, having created multiple sketches. To get one sketch from those sketches, you will be projecting / extrude cutting relevant parts of each into the conglomerate anyway.

Green Splines are second best - but very difficult to make a spline black and fully defined, when most of us want to slide the spline to suit in the first place.

It's for an aircraft instrument panel. I don't think I need to extrude at all as SendCutSend asks for it flat. Should I extrude it to the panel thickness (0.1") and then use the flatten tool or just leave it as is? The construction lines are where the bezels are located for each instrument. Solid lines are cut lines. When I send it to them it comes out all wonky (first 2 pics). I included the .f3d if you want to mess with it.

I got my spline to go black but the reference points are green. Does that mean anything?

I really appreciate the help!

Ok, so I don't know those people or their requirements, but as a Laser cutter, I would need the one part sketch.

I have extruded sketch 1 and Extrude Cut the rest, that done, I have my preferences set to Project the face to a new sketch to Export as DXF. (Mouse hover over the new sketch to check accuracy.)

Send the people this DXF and see if it suits the purpose. Plate with All holes.
