Issues with making a cut of consistent depth on a spherical surface

I am attempting to make a cut of consistent depth on the face of a spherical surface, similarly to how the 'emboss' tool functions on cylindrical surfaces. (The best comparison I can draw is laying a sheet with my sketch overtop a half sphere, this is opposed to the 'project to surface' function which distorts the image when projecting onto the sphere) You can see the general outline I am following from the canvas in the lower half of the photo. I am additionally attaching my Sketch Fab reference model so you can get a better idea of what my goal is, I am particularly trying to model the sphere face opposite the handle. I have additionally attached my actual model for testing. I will happily answer any further questions commented below!

It's called Extrude from Object, select the slot profile, select the face of the sphere and set depth.

I had no idea how deep, or if you will chamfer the taper, fillet the floor and top face, or of any sizes.

This looks like exactly what I needed! Is the Extrude from object function in the normal extrude tab or is it located somewhere else?

Normal Extrude, select Object from this drop down arrow, and fill in the options
