With this configuration of surfaces, it is very difficult to offset them.

The quickest way would be to create a new sketch for each cross section, draw a spline curve, and then offset it.

Note that the resulting surface cannot be easily offset either, so the offset of the sketch must be changed directly when changing the amount of offset.

We will omit some of the steps in the process, but please watch the video of the general procedure.

The part I omitted is the repetition of selecting each section, sketching it, drawing a spline, and offsetting it.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/ja/community/screencast/4595bca0-489e-4d1f-970d-3db30f7012dc

Hi guys,

I have a 3D scan of a carbon bike handlebar. I would like to design specific parts to help a disabled biker to ride using this handlebar.

I managed to draw mesh sections sketches and build bodies that looks like my handlebar.

Now I would like to offset these bodies in order to have a shell that will perfectly suit the handlebar shape and to design something that will be installed around the handlebar (let us say a part that will wrap the handlebar where I could set the orthotic of my friend.)

I can not manage to offset the bodies in order to later build a shell... do I have to simplify the surfaces? If so, how to do it please? What am I doing wrong?

Sorry for my poor english,

Thank you a lot from France!

ERROR !

Please find enclosed the f3d file, thank you very much for your help!

Ok thank you!
I understand the surfaces are too complex to be offset, so it would have been easier to offset each sections sketch and loft them instead. Thank you very much for this solution and this prompt answer !

This is your very first sketch with a curvature comb analysis on it-

you can see the curvature quality is horrendous. surfaces made from curves like this will be problematic and difficult to work with from the beginning.

redrawing the curves is a good start, but offsetting a sketched spline often yields sub-par results also, as can be seen in @Bunga777 's attached file-

there's a good chance that surfaces created from these curves will cause you problems down the road.

I would suggest using the mesh as a visual reference only, and modeling the thing from scratch. attached is a start, it might be good enough as is to do what you want, and it can be improved by tweaking the lines.

do have a hand sketch of what your trying to do?
