yes, you can import supported file type. a mesh file (.obj,.stl)will be of limited utility to you. if that is what you have the then a mesh editor like mesh mixer or blender might be a better tool. a step file would be better (.step or .stp). if the quality is decent you will be able to use it easily, if it's not, might require some work.

Yes it is possible to upload a model. I just googled Nintendo Switch Pro controller STEP file and multiple websites came up. The first one that came up was GrabCAD, which I am familiar with but you have to have an account to download anything off of the website. I am not familiar with the controller itself so I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for so I was going to have to let you do the searching, but yes it is possible. It doesn't necessarily have to be a STEP file, that was just what I was looking for.

If you are just using the outline of the controller and combining it with the wood block, you shouldn't have to. Is it not allowing you to combine the controller and the block?

Sorry about that, completely forgot about that picture. At least how I would approach this, I would get the controller centered in a good spot, then sketch a rectangle the desired size and extrude it to the desired thickness. From there, I would move the controller to where the controller is into the block about however deep you want the handle cutouts to be, and I would create an offset plane on the top face of the block. I would use that plane to split the body of the controller and make the top part invisible. I would then make the block opaque and do a section analysis about halfway for the first handle you choose to design for where its cutting into the wood, and design how it needs to be routed out, do the same for the second handle, and anything else you choose to have in the wood block. You, or anyone else, may have an easier approach, that's just how I have found things easiest so I am able to see exactly where I need to project the handle onto the piece of wood in order for me to create my sketch.

fusion is a brep modeler. you have a mesh file. a very dense heavy one at that. there is little you can do with it in fusion.

if you have the time to wait for fusion to think between operations you can do the following-

-create your solid block and position relative to the controller

-convert the block to a mesh (tessellate in the mesh environment

-use combine in the mesh environment to cut the shape of controller from the block

I do believe it is bigger than it should be unless your hands are massive. I am getting that it is 60"x22"x40". You could get measurements off a controller you have and try to scale it down or try to find another model.

when you use the cloud conversion, fusion assumes a unit of centimeters . don't know why they thought this was a good idea, why they haven't changed it, or if they will ever change it (probably not).

it's probably off by some factor relating to a conversion, such as cm to mm or inches to mm

using insert mesh from the insert menu will let you specify the units-

It really depends on what the intended end result will be. With "end result" I mean the physical artifact you intend to make. IF you can explain that, then we might be able to help.

If you want to accurately reverse engineer the mesh geometry of the controller into a usable CAD model e.g. BRep or NURBS geometry, that is something I would not recommend you attempt.
