Good morning. I'm looking for a good way to layout a flat sheet metal cone. I'm using Fusion 360 for all my plasma cutting projects. I'm not really drawing anything 3 dimensional. Not sure it is even possible to layout a project completely as I'm doing in fusion being it's just individual sheet metal pieces being put together vs a solid work being milled. Basically, what I have is a barrel made of sheet metal and I'm needing a cone made of another piece of sheet metal that will sit atop of the barrel. Is it possible to lay that out into Fusion and have fusion calculate this cone for me? Or do I need to mathematically figure the specs to build the cone elsewhere and then redraw that piece into fusion?

Thanks for any tips and suggestions!

I hadn't yet begun any attempt as I wasn't sure where to even begin with this in fusion. But I did look up some ways to draw this up and simply input those measurements into fusion as if I was laying this out on a workbench. So far that has been going well and now I'm stumped at how to measure out that length along the outer diameter which for this project calculates to be 75.36" of the outer circle is all I need of it to complete the bottom (larger portion) of the cone.

so where I need to start this next measurement is from the bottom right point of the triagle and measure clockwise 75.36". That will be all I need of that outer circle.

What In after is a cone

top opening of 8"

bottom opening of 24"

height of 12"

I was actually thinking the same thing. I hadnt yet started laying this out prior to posting my initial question. It looks easy enough to lay out on a table and measure out with a compass in small increments or something. Just was hoping to find a way to use Fusion at very least to help complete how I'm doing this now. Or at best case to calculate it all with some kind of tool already on Fusion. But yes, laying it out this way as I have been is setting off to be not that difficult. but just a bug or two that would be nice to work out so this is more precise and easier next time. This is all just raw steel.. no special ends for connection points such as with ductwork or anything.

Thanks for digging this up as well as the upload! That other link to that cone generator was very cool as well and I've already saved that to my favorites. I'll give all of this a try again this evening. Thanks again!
