Hi,

I'm trying to split a torus like body into 3 parts using 3 surfaces but get an error "There is unhandled intersecting tool data". I'd appreciate help. Attached is a screenshot and and the model.

Thanks in advance,

when you split a body, you have to do it in such a way that you end up with a body that is completely separated. when you do the split with just one of the surfaces as shown in your pic first, you are only attempting to make a cut thru the body, not splitting the whole body in 2. this messes up the algorithm from the command.

try stitching 2 of those surfaces together and do the split with the resulting body, or forget about using surfaces, and just split with lines in a sketch (you probably already drew them in order to extrude those surfaces)

Thank you for your reply,
I tried splitting with only two surfaces stitched together, but got the same error message. thickening them to even 0.01mm and then splitting works, but that is not a clean solution.
splitting using lines in the sketch works. and your solution below is fancy indeed!
I really would like to understand why it doesn't work with surfaces, to learn from the experience.
(though I did learn you can split using a sketch! thanks!)

you already have 2 of those surfaces together as a single surface body, so the suggestion to stitch together wasn't necessary (I didn't know that with my initial reply b/c I hadn't seen the model yet). when you go to split the torus, select the splitting tool from the browser to to select the whole body as the splitting tool. then it will work. (you can also select the body by double clicking on it in the design window)
