I worked around it but saved the files as they werre. these purchased/imported parts sometimes cause issues here and especially in Solidworks and I'd really like to know how to find and where to look for these issues.

Hi Folks

I have a new model I'm making that I've imported 2 models into as components and made each into rigid groups so they hold together. Now I'm making a revolute joint between these 2 rigid groups so that they can function. The 2 groups are already positioned but as-built joints don't work. There is no error or anything the dialog just doesn't come up. I can use a regular joint to join them and it does work but one of the 2 components tilts 5° as soon as I click ok. the joint stays at 0° the part moves and is 5° turned from where it was. how do I track down what's happening?

The only way I know is to attach your model to a reply post. I tried what you described and it works OK for me. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

HI

I can't attach this particular file but it's happened again on another assembly. Here's a video of trying to add the joint and the results. As soon as the joints are made the part turns. it's only happened since I made these rigid groups.

Inspect the orientation of the origins of your components!

I bet one of them is rotated 5 degrees.

around the 9 second mark the joint axis x and y seem to not line up with the vertical ( they are rotated). i think once jointed fusion rotates it to line up with the other part.

Found a tweaked origin and aligned it with the others but it still twists when the joint is added. it's the weirdest problem.

yea that's what's happening, I found a twisted origin and fixed it with align but it still twisted after the joint. see the new vid I posted I tried to align on the origin plans again and the twisted one pulled the ones from the other parts but not all of them.
