Thank you for the help I understand what you mean but I want to move it further away from the plane I put it on and when I go into edit canvas it only allows me to move it up down side to side I want to move the canvas back away from the starting point I put it on.

I'm trying to move a canvas on the X axis but it will only let me move it on the Y and Z. I saw people online using the move and copy tool to move it freely in any direction but when I select that tool, I cannot select a canvas to move only faces, sketches, bodies, and components. I am fairly new to fusion 360 if someone can help me that would be amazing thank you!!!!

You do not want to use the Move/Copy tool to move a Canvas image. Find it in the Browser and then right mouse click on it and choose Edit Canvas. You will then see the move arrows along with other editing tools.

Your best bet then is to right click on the Canvas and Delete it. You can then reinsert it on a new face or construction plane in the position you desire.

Wow, this is amazing to me that this is still a bug. The issue seems to be that it's mapping the X and Y distance changes (which is the way you move the canvas) in the base coordiante system rather than the X and Y of the *image*, which is the expected behavior. It's like the operation is missing a transform.

The "accepted solution" which is to make a reference plane seems pretty weak to not have fixed since 2023, but I suppose maybe you should never put a canvas on a origin plane like the tutorial is telling me to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfAfxae8aRc

aha...perhaps it's the fact that I'm running in the newly established workflow, which is designing a Part, rather than a Component in an Assembly. There's probably no "part" reference frame that is getting leveraged here.
