Understood, is there a way to put in a request for this type of feature? I can't share the link to the youtube video but Kristian basically had to brute force/do very labor intensive features in order to make it happen. I know it would be possible in Rhino but I was hoping to make it work parametrically. Thanks for the response!

Pattern sketch along path?

Simple question, probably not a simple solution? My question is, is it possible to pattern a sketch along a path? I found Kristian Laholm's video on how to create a sine wave around a circle but that only is half of what I am looking for. I am looking to pattern a squiggle pattern down a vertical line and around a circle. Here is a quick 3D sketch of what I am looking to create.

Hi,

In sketch mode pattern along path is not available.

Patterns should always be created as features.

If you are using Surface Sweep use both the line and arc as Path.

Example file Attached.

This workflow is not "bulletproof" there can be problems later with geometry created in this way.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately this is only partially what I am looking to do for my design. The result of your "squiggle" is 3D in space. I was hoping to create a flat squiggle (hard to describe) to then create a sweep/pipe along.

Sorry about that! I should have investigated the file, that is my fault. Yes this is somewhat what I was looking for the only problem is that I want the squiggle to be parallel to the vessel (I am making a having planter for plants). Right now in your file the squiggle is flat but running perpendicular to the vessel. The side of the vessel isn't the problem, it is getting the squiggle to follow along the dome bottom. I do like the technique you used though, is it possible to project the coil you made onto the sphere/dome?

I am not quite sure what you mean, can you attempt it in a file and share it with me? I would assume if you put it in a component it won't follow the curvature of the sphere/dome at the bottom of the vessel.

Hey Kristian!

I didn't realize it was the Kristian Laholm! I watched your video on "How to Wrap a Sine Wave perpendicular around a circle". The model you posted actually got me in the correct direction for how to achieve what I wanted. I just had to use a different command for projecting (projecting to surface). I got it to project along the entire sweep profile you had created but it did not want to do it in mine, but I just used that one side and patterned it. I have attached the model I worked it out in. Thanks again for the help!

The sketch will follow the path the same as if it was a body. Try it.

As far as putting that pattern on a round body, try this method by @TrippyLighting.
