topic Export converted sheet metal part to DXF? in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

Good evening. I have a internal component that forms the right side skin of the seat bucket of my simulated ejection seat. It has several bends to form it to the exterior of the seat bucket. I converted it to a Fusion 360 sheet metal part (it was imported from our previous CAD system) and activated a flat pattern. It shows the bends in the correct location and appears correct in Fusion. However, when I try to export the DXF, I get a, "There was an unexpected problem with exporting the flat pattern as a DXF file." error.

Would anyone know another alternative?

Although have managed to convert to a Sheetmetal body in fusion 360 and had some forward progress the body itself does not IMHO comply with the sheet metal rules. Are you amenable to a work around? Is it just a perimeter flat pattern dxf you need? Can you share your file?

Oops, thank you for the reminder to attach a file. A full flat DXF or SVG is the intended end goal to drill and make the required pocket cuts. We are doing most of our flat parts in SVG output using the Export to Origin plugin, but was a tad disappointed that I couldn't seem to access the utilities panel from the flat pattern panel.

As suspected although Solid to Sheetmetal "worked" and Unfiold worked broken rules mean that a flat pattern dxf will fail. I've attached my best go at extracting a dxf (created via the unfolded body) but it is unchecked at this stage.

P.S. I like your Lusterless Black Paint Appearance...Where did it come from?

EDIT: Yes something in my version .dxf is wonky I get different results from either side:

EDIT #2. Actually, they are the same from both sides just rotated slightly.

Thank you for the attempt @Warmingup1953! What "rules" are required to be satisfied to successfully export the flat pattern? Is there any ability to access the utilities tab from the flat pattern "tab"?

We made a custom appearance and materials library for the OpenHornet project. I really like it as well, but just looked up the correct FED-STD-595 color code (FS37038) and extracted the correct RGB codes and did the appearances based on that. Almost to the beta1 release, and looking forward to getting some amazing renders up on the site of the latest models post release. Just working through the drawing creation and manufacturing file generation phase of the release now. (Only like 16 more drawings of the 80+ we started out with!)

Sheet metal bodies created in Fusion 360 from scratch comply with the rules of course (with caveats). Converted bodies can and more often than not do have rule-breakers such as non-planar faces or Bends where the inside radius + Thickness is not equal to the outside radius ...I checked yours on the easy one (using the Origin planes to Split the body perpendicular to a bend) to analyse at that one appeared to be in order.

Where to from here? Can you use my .dxf for now or are you looking to solve for the future?

What ended up working for me was making the flat pattern, inserting it to my existing drawing as a view, then making a new drawing at a 1:1 scale with no sheet and exporting the flat pattern to DXF from there.
