Being that Fusion is nice for 3D modeling, it is nice to be able to draw items, including those that are not part of the invention. Drawings of this nature require phantom lines, dot dot dash. Other lines showing detailed enlargement areas and hidden parts require dashed lines. Though it would be nice if Fusion could produce patent drawings, that is not needed.. if the model with the correct line type could be created in Fusion, a screen capture could obtain the image so it could be used in another program, such as Photoshop where the drawing could be assembled and finished with other images as well for the patent drawing. With that said, anyone know how to change the line types in Design, Drawing, or other mode to those required by the patent office?

Hi,

Have you looked at the Drawing section of the Toolbar?

It takes a bit to get used to, but after I did the Tutorials in the Fusion Documentation (which only took about

30 minutes) I feel comfortable enough to use this to create my own Manufacturing Drawings.

Everything you need is here and it is easy to use when you know how. The best part is creating views

automagically that all you then have to do is dimension. Hidden Lines are put in for you if you tell the

software to do it and adding Centre Lines etc is simple. In addition you can also do do Section views with a few

mouse clicks. You can also put an Orthographic view of your actual model in the Drawings.

There is no need to redraw your model. Most of it is found here. It is well worth the effort.

Hope this helps

Andrew

Thank you, I had taken a cursory look at the Document Settings Dialog with a right click and had figured the setting would be located there if it was going to be on the Settings tab. Taking the time now to explore each tab now I see the third tab seems to work well for the dashed lines but the Phantom2 does not use the dash dot dot required format for the part which is not part of the patent application but part of a drawing. It would be nice, and I would if I knew how, add a script to add this in to the line selections....

Hi

AFIK Fusion follows various Standards including US Imperial and Metric. The Drafting Standard we use in

Australia is ASNZS 1100.2 and Fusion can cope with that ok for Production Drawings.

I don't know what the US Imperial Drafting Standard is (probably an ANSI Standard) and there would be

a European Union Metric Standard and I am pretty sure Fusion would be compatible with Both.

What is not available that you are looking for? I have seen other posts about such things as Welding icons

but I think that was for AutoCAD not Fusion, even if it was for Fusion it is available.

Andrew

Hi,

As I understand it, they seem to be saying to use this line on a Patent for the part you are NOT claiming as your own.

I don't have enough experience with Drawing Standards to say if that is a Standard for Drawing or a Standard for

Patent Drawing. I would still say use Fusion. There must be a way to create a Custom Line and surely somebody

has already done this. I also use AutoCAD and they have a bunch of different Lines and you can download quite

a few non-standard ones. There may be something in the AutoCAD Forums.

Sorry I cannot be more help.

Cheers

Andrew
