I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'd love if anyone had any suggestions on how to deal with this behaviour in Fusion.

When I make a sketch I often end up with extra profiles from the bodies I'm working with. I will work with the body hidden most of the time. I keep ending up with profiles from the body on the sketch as semi-visible elements. There is a show of a profile but no visible contours. If I window select it picks up the contours. If I try to select a contour in CAM it will also find these even though I didn't create them.

Here's the sketch:

Here's the result of a window selection:

I can delete the curves but I'm curious as to if they are a feature that I should be utilizing more? Or if there is a way I can stop their generation.

Hard to tell without the model. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

this happens when you create a sketch on a body AND you have this preference enabled-

most of us here highly suggest disabling this preference and projecting only the geometry you need manually.
