topic DXF Rotates 90 Degrees When Exported? in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

I'm having an issue where when I export a dxf, and then open the dxf I just exported, it comes in rotated 90 degrees from how it was exported. I rotated the sketch 90 degrees before export. I'm going to plasma cut this, and I need the dxf to be in the orientation that I exported it in so that I can fit it on the remaining material on the plasma table. Anybody have any idea why this might be happening?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Art

If you enable the grid while editing the sketch do the XY match what you're after?

So you're saying when I rotate the sketch, it rotates the entire thing, XY and all? When I activated the sketch and rotated the geometry in the active sketch the DXF exported as intended.

What I'm trying to figure out is what are the XY axis in the actual sketch.

If you edit the sketch and activate the grid you should see the red and green axis. In the example below they match the document orientation but that might not be the case if you have components in the design. Are you exporting using Save As DXF or are you exporting a flat pattern?

Something else to note in my image above is although the XY match the document the directions are reversed, X+ is to the left and Y+ is down. If I exported this sketch I think it would be upside down and backwards compared to the document origin. This is because I create an offset plane on a face and the orientation matches the face not the document.

@Art5 wrote:

So you're saying when I rotate the sketch, it rotates the entire thing, XY and all? When I activated the sketch and rotated the geometry in the active sketch the DXF exported as intended.

How are you rotating the sketch? Are you working in direct mode where you can move\rotate sketch planes? If you rotate a sketch plane then yes you will also rotate the sketch's axis.
